The Joker is no longer confined to the walls of Arkham Asylum. Authorities
aren't sure how he escaped, but are assuming it was not anything as simple
as a technical malfunction inside the institution.
Number Two:
James Gordon... yes, the Commissioner, is missing. He went missing about
a month ago. It left the city reeling and, as weeks passed, destroyed some
of the inner workings of Gotham's Finest. And they thought those cops were
corrupt before...
Number Three:
Both media and the GCPD alike have speculated that the two incidents are
somehow related... and there are continuous ongoing searches for both men.
Unfortunately every lead thus far has left them empty handed.
The week after Gordon disappeared the Gotham Globe began receiving exclusive insight into a world of lunacy, on a daily basis, in the form of mass jumbles of magazines clippings scrawled with blood and taped into paperback novels at key plot points. Each clipping gave away part of a much bigger picture to the detectives assigned to the case: where James Gordon was being held. Each day brought a new clue that led to countless locations being scouted every hour of the day. However, time became the enemy. A video was released on the Channel 7 News one week following the first received clipping, spilling the gruesome details of Gordon's imminent death... and the few cops who actually cared about the Commissioner became so frantic in their efforts to find and save him that the city became fair game to any badge with a gun.
To save Gotham from itself, a handful of fledgling vigilantes donned masks and followed in Batman's footsteps, doing what they could to stop the criminals. Some of them only lasted a few nights before disappearing. Those that disappeared turned up later in Gotham's river. The status of self-proclaimed vigilante didn't last long... most of them gave up their heroic personae a couple of weeks after taking them on. There were, however, a few that didn't back down so easily.
The city is at war and things are getting progressively worse by the day. Batman's ousting left the city wide open for attack from all sides. With no one to whom they've had to answer, the criminals on the streets have torn Gotham apart from the inside out. And where is The Batman? No one in Gotham has that answer. There are rumors and speculation that he is still around watching and waiting, but he hasn't put an end to Gotham's debacle... and his stalling has created an outraged public.
The GCPD is unsure of whom they can trust within their precincts, the different mobs are a constant threat to each other as each side struggles to maintain control over the streets, another criminal, dubbed The Riddler, is beginning to make himself known all in thanks to the media who have a tendency to blow things out of proportion. And right in the center of it all? The Joker, himself, with his own small group of clowns who have their hands in everything.
No one, save the person or persons who are holding him, knows where James Gordon is... or if he's even alive at this point.
Gotham's death toll rises as criminals have free reign over the streets.
Yes, things are in a constant state of bedlam... we've grown used to hearing about murder and mayhem on a daily basis.
It is Gotham City after all.[/ul][/size]
this is the way the world ends... not with a whimper but a BANG
