HAIL STARFLEET'S PLOT

In 2385, the excitement of USS Voyager's return to Earth had dimmed. However, Starfleet has not forgotten the information the ship and it's crew collected while they were traveling home through the Delta Quadrant. Before the start of the Dominion War, Starfleet engineers began working on a new and improved class of Intrepid vessels, since Voyager's disappearance left the fleet without an Intrepid Class ship. However, with the start of the Dominion War, attention was focused on other tasks, and the design and production of the ship was put on hold.
Once the Dominion War was over, and negotiations were complete, Starfleet began to rebuild what it had lost, beginning with the USS Nightingale. Its maximum warp factor is warp 9.975, as warp 10 has yet to be achieved successfully and safely. Similarly to it's sister companion, USS Voyager, its bio-neural circuitry provides a faster response time and processes information more quickly.
The USS Nightingale has ten decks. While the original design for the first version of the Intrepid Class vessel had 15, engineers used space more efficiently, and designed the Nightingale with 10, thus providing a lighter-weight ship with an even faster response time than Voyager.
***For lack of a better description, the view screen is like stepping out in space without a suit -- one has the ability to see everything around them, and it is probably quite unnerving, since it really would feel like you have nothing between you and space.***

THE MISSION

The Nightingale's mission is to explore the Delta Quadrant, to make friends with new species, to discover new worlds, and to ultimately build a space station in the Delta Quadrant. The ship is designed to carry civilians and their families, with the intent on establishing a settlement on the space station. Their purpose after establishing a space station, is to search for wormholes that would open up a passageway to the Alpha Quadrant.
The civilians on the Nightingale are scientists and engineers, and their purpose is to help the officers of the Nightingale build the space station. The Nightingale also carries supplies for the purpose of building the station. The ship itself is primarily a research and exploration vessel, although it has a full weapons system, since traveling to the Delta Quadrant is not a safe nor risk free task.
